Major Raymond G. Estelle II was a native of New Haven, Connecticut who felt the call to serve his country in 1989, enlisting as an aerospace ground equipment technician. Over his 20-year Air Force career, he excelled in every way, eventually commissioning as an officer to better the forces of tomorrow. His enthusiasm, charisma, and support and mentoring of those around him made him the type of leader that is desperately sought after.
On 27 April 2011, Maj Estelle arrived in Kabul, Afghanistan, the first day of his 365-day deployment as a communications Advisor to the Afghan Air Force. Sadly, on the morning of 27 April 2011, a helicopter pilot for the Afghan Air Force pulled a pistol from his flight suit and opened fire, resulting in Maj. Estelle, seven other service members, and one civilian contractor being killed in the line of duty.
Major Raymond G. Estelle II was survived by his wife of 10 years, Estelle, his daughter, Shayla, his son, Raymond III, his mother, Regina, his sister, Nyiesha, his grandfather, Burton, his father-in-law, Levi, his mother-in-law, Lynn, and a host of nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, and close friends.
Thank you, sir.
