Master Sergeant Tara R. Brown K.I.A. 27 April 2011

Master Sergeant Tara R. Brown grew up on Long Island, New York but moved to Deltona, Florida in her teenage years. She had dreamt of becoming a pediatric nurse, but just before graduating high school, MSgt Brown made the decision to serve her country. In 1995, MSgt Brown graduated high school and entered the Delayed Entry Program for the Air Force, heading to basic training in 1996. This decision took her to several assignments around the world, beginning with working in the Information Management career field at Kadena Air Base, Okinawa, Japan. Her hard work and dedication was rewarded with a quick rise in the ranks to MSgt, several Air Force and NATO awards, and the opportunity to work at the Headquarters Air Force Office of Special Investigations.

In 2011, MSgt Brown was serving as a Communication Squadron Advisor for NATO Air Training Command in Kabul, Afghanistan. Sadly, on the morning of 27 April 2011, a helicopter pilot for the Afghan Air Force pulled a pistol from his flight suit and opened fire, resulting in the MSgt Brown, seven other service members, and one civilian contractor being killed in the line of duty.

Master Sergeant Tara R. Brown was survived by her husband, Ernest, her mother, Gladys, her father, Jim, her four brothers, Jim, Dominic, Michael, and Christopher, and her sister, Laguanda.

Thank you, ma’am.
